Securing health, promoting development – integrated support for children in Tuban, Yemen

Yemen is in the eleventh year of a devastating armed conflict that has plunged the country into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The Tuban district is also affected by extreme climate shocks such as flash floods and prolonged droughts, economic collapse, and a volatile security situation. The education system is also overwhelmed by overcrowding, a lack of equipment and teachers, as well as inadequate accessibility and sanitation infrastructure. The consequences include widespread malnutrition, recurring cholera outbreaks, and children missing school.

The project improves the survival and development prospects of socioeconomically disadvantaged children in Tuban and promotes their social participation. To this end, health services, measures to treat malnutrition, school meals, and meal vouchers are combined. In addition, a school is rehabilitated by expanding classrooms, providing equipment, and creating inclusive sanitation facilities, ensuring that health, nutrition, and education services are integrated.
