Sustainable livelihoods and coastal protection in the Sundarbans

The project contributes to the protection of natural resources and strengthens the coastal communities of the Sundarbans, which are particularly affected by climate change. The aim is to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly income opportunities and thus secure the livelihoods of the population.

The target group is given better access to local organizations, alternative income opportunities, start-up capital and government support. This strengthens their self-help skills. Participants learn about sustainable and climate-adapted methods in agriculture and aquaculture, for example through home and school gardens as well as combined forms of agriculture, animal husbandry and fish farming.

Measures for reforestation and the protection of biodiversity and coasts help to increase the region's resilience to climate risks. In addition, the target group and representatives of institutions and civil society are made aware of the consequences of climate change and receive basic information on climate change, environmental protection and biodiversity.
