In the villages of the hilly Kamonyi district in Rwanda, many households do not have reliable access to clean water. Families, especially women and children, walk long, arduous distances into the valleys every day to fetch water from rivers.
The project improves the water and sanitation supply for 890 households: A pumping station transports clear drinking water from the spring in the valley to a large reservoir on the hill. From there, water pipes and water points distribute clean drinking water directly to villages and schools. Accompanying measures promote hygiene and health-conscious behavior. Children gain time for school and the whole community benefits from improved safety, health and quality of life.
